Heard 35 Joins the Fold

Hi all,

I have recently bought a Heard 35, which according to the original paperwork was hull number 2 built for a home build in Poole, where she still is up on the hard.

She apparently was called Black Magic Woman, but she is currently known as just Black Magic.

She is rigged as a yawl, but I have some doubts over how the original owner built her, as the gaff is a solid 6" spar and weighs a lot.

Unfortunately the 'gentleman' I bought her off made a quick buck by selling the lead ballast, so I'm looking for solutions to that problem!

Where can I find more information about the rigging and ballast now that sadly Gaffers and Luggers no longer build them?

Cheers Mike

Best to contact Sam Heard for information.

The ballast would be lead shot encased in resin and not removable. So perhaps there never was any. 5 tons in a 28, no idea how much in a 35. There will have been movable lead ingots for trimming ballast. Sam should have the answers you need.
