Tosher - An Hogh Dhu

Terry Heard Lug Rigged Mevagissey Tosher An Hogh Dhu, (ex Alanna) sail number T2

Built in 1975 by Terry Heard for himself and purchased by me in 2011.

Lug mainsail, foresail and mizzen, with inboard Petter mini 6 and sweeps. Main mast 20ft, mizzen 12ft. A working tosher – tyresfor buffs.

The previous owner told me that he had kept the vessel on a mooring on the Helford and that spars had been chainsawed on the beach by the NT. She had no keel fitted – he said to enable his young daughters to get up all the little creeks in the area.

On her arrival in Penzance fitted sturdy oak cleats, stainless steel fairleads, bilge pump and float switch with solar panel to charge battery, chain bobstay and constructed a 16ft Douglas Fir spar to carry the lugsail.

In the following lay up 2012, collected, welded on new bow section and fitted keel so sails could be used and made longer legs to support on drying out. Fitted sacrificial anode to keel. Renewed alternator belt.

The following season 2013 metal caps made for legs (wooden ones came abroad) and rudder repaired.

2014 the fuel tank is sabotaged with varnish. Engine out and checked over, new oil and fuel filter, engine mountings and coupling fitted. Later in season new bilge pump and solar panel. Masts off and stripped back to wood – 3 coats linseed oil & 5 of varnish.

New, stainless steel lockable fuel tank made and new fuel lines fitted in winter lay up 2015.

2016 life jackets serviced, rigging screws replaced, fuel lift pump diaphragm etc. fitted.

2017 electrics overhauled – fuses, voltmeter, exciter wire and new regulator fitted to alternator. New engine box and cables.

The mooring will be available for 2 years before purchaser needs to find another (at their expense)

It comes with extras such as punt, about 20 years of anti-fouling, spare battery etc.
