Hello, anyone going to the Brest festival of the sea in July? I am planning to fly there (too far for me to sail from the East coast.....although I would love to do it.) and it would be a good place to meet other GALA members.

Tupperware and proud of it!!!

Even my Picarooner has been mistaken for a wooden boat before now, and anyway, the hull is only part of a boat, and 99% of the time it just sits there... its all those wooden bits and ropey things on top that gets played about with so much, and matters much!

Absolutely right, Steve, and I reckon a great compromise for anyone who does not have the time or resources to keep a wooden hull in good shape. I was thinking more of the reaction of others, especially the traditionalists so attached to the "authenticity" of wood that they even have gribble worm in their beards...

I have had more than one person comment on the state of my "wooden" hull, before I disillusioned them!

Brian I am surprised at you!

Martins boats are hardly 'Plastic Gaffers'.

They are wooden boats with a plastic hull, what could be better than that !

Nor me - I struggle to find enough time for the local Solent Old Gaffers events, let alone Brest!

I have slightly mixed feelings about it, from the reports that I have seen in past years. Not sure if it is not too big now, if such a thing is possible. And is turning up in a plastic gaffer seen as playing the game? There sometimes seems to be a bit of snootiness about that (although maybe it is all the fault of the omni-present Shrimpers!)

Hi Colin, Aeolus has just had a very expensive paint job so there is no way I'm going to risk it with that mass of boats!
I'm told that it is great fun though esp if you do Douarnenez as well.
